Vauxhall Street Mural

The Vauxhall Night Time Enterprise Zone is a Mayor of London-funded programme that aims to activate the area through events and extended opening hours, improve the public realm, support businesses and night workers, and strengthen the inclusivity of the nighttime offers.

As part of the Vauxhall Night Time Enterprise Zone ambitions to help make the area more welcoming and inclusive at night, The Matchbox were tasked with engaging local businesses and communities, to come up with a striking floor mural on Goding Street. The lead artist on the project was Bec Dennison. Stakeholders, project partners and workshop participants included:

  • Lambeth Council

  • Vauxhall One Business Improvement District

  • 8+ Businesses in the railway arches along Goding Street

  • Friends of the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens

  • Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens Pétanque Club

  • Vauxhall City Farm

  • Vauxhall Gardens Community Centre

  • Eagle London and members of the LGBTQ+ community

  • Members of the Portuguese and Madeiran community

The Goding Street Floor mural is the first project that’s been delivered as part of the Low Line Vision to improve the public realm along the railway arches between Waterloo and Battersea.

The artwork was installed using Thermoplastic over 2 evenings to not disturb the local businesses.
