Mentoring a local artist, and helping the community install a 120 meter mural.

Ilford Underpass Mural

Colours of Redbridge is a community-led arts and culture programme in the borough of Redbridge. It’s part of Creative People and Places (CPP), a national initiative by Arts Council England that empowers local people to shape their cultural landscape. The program supports residents, workers, and students in Redbridge to develop creative and cultural projects for everyone to enjoy.

The Matchbox were brought in to support local artist Erin Aniker, through a process of collaborative design development and ideation with local community groups, through to the installation of a 120 meter long mural. The beautiful final artwork takes us on a journey through Redbridge’s history, from ancient discoveries to inventions and a glimpse into the future.

Mentorship in mural making was provided to Erin so that she was able to develop her portfolio and learn new skills. The mural was then installed by the Matchbox through a series of workshops with local residents.
